Spiral Dog Leash

Spiral Dog Leash

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a beautiful Spiral Dog Leash.

This is a beginner-friendly tutorial, minimal tools are required. If you do not have any Paracord Fids, [Click here] to check out the ones I recommend or alternatively you can use some needle-nose pliers.

What you Need

• Paracord- One foot per one inch in length

• 2 x Trigger Snaphooks

• 1 x ‘D’ Ring

• 1 x Lighter

• 2 x Fids

• Scissors / Knife

1 x Ruler / Tape Measure

Let’s Begin.

Step one: Create a Lark’s Head Knot.

Start by finding the middle of your cord.
Create a lark’s head knot by inserting the cord into a Snaphook.
Bring it over the top of the Snaphook.
Tighten to secure.
Step one Complete, now onto the next step.

Step two: Set leash length

Insert cord ends into your other Snaphook.
Pull through to your desired length.
Distance between Snaphooks is your leash length.

Step three: Secure to Snaphook

Use your finger and thumb to hold the cords in place.
Take one outer cord and place it over the closest inner cord.
Bring it around the cord and up through the loop.
Pull through the cord.
Tighten to secure.
Do the same for the other side.

Step four: Create the handle

Take the right cord, go over the two middle cords and under the left cord.
Now bring the cord around the back and up through the loop.
Tighten the cord.
Now repeat, this time beginning on the other side.
Continue down the leash until approx 30cm.

Step five: Add the ‘D’ Ring

Take the weaving cord (cord moving horizontally along the leash.)
Pull it through your D Ring.
Then continue your weaving, each time pulling the cord through the D Ring.
Make one more weave under the D Ring and you are ready to start your spiral.

Step six: Make your spiral leash.

Continue the pattern but this time, starting from the same side each time. I am going from the left.
You will start to notice the spiral after a few weaves.
Continue all the way to the bottom.

Step seven: Attach your fids to finish your leash.

Once your fids are attached, begin stitching the cord ends back up into your leash.
I suggest going through the Snaphook and then up into the leash for extra support.

Step eight: Cut and singe the ends

Leash Complete.
